P8: P4 With Predictable Packet Processing Performance

چکیده
Data plane programmability brings network flexibility to a new level. However, it introduces the complexity of data path's program as factor that influences packet forwarding latency and thus devices' performance. Accurate identification relation between path enables design management networks with predictable In this article, we leverage characteristics P4 programming language provide method for estimating function program. We analyze impact different constructs on processing three state-of-the-art devices: Netronome SmartNIC, NetFPGA-SUME, T4P4S DPDK-based software switch. Besides comparing performance these targets, use derived results propose average latency, at compilation time, arbitrary P4-based functions implemented using surveyed constructs. The proposed is finally validated set realistic functions, which shows our estimates sub-microsecond precision.

Toward Predictable Performance in Software Packet-Processing Platforms
To become a credible alternative to specialized hardware, general-purpose networking needs to offer not only flexibility, but also predictable performance. Recent projects have demonstrated that general-purpose multicore hardware is capable of high-performance packet processing, but under a crucial simplifying assumption of uniformity: all processing cores see the same type/amount of traffic an...

The rapid growth of Internet and the fast emergence of new network applications have brought great challenges and complex issues in deploying high-speed and QoS guaranteed IP network. For this reason packet classification and network intrusion detection have assumed a key role in modern communication networks in order to provide Qos and security. In this thesis we describe a number of the most ...
متن کاملPredictable Packet Latency in Xen-ARM
SUMMARY In this paper, we address latency issue in Xen-ARM virtual machines. Despite the advantages of virtualization in mobile systems, the current Xen-ARM is difficult to apply to mobile devices because it has unpredictable I/O latency. This paper analyzes the latency of incoming packet handling in Xen-ARM, and presents how virtualization affects the latency in detail. To make the latency pre...
